Vaginal reconstruction

Vaginal agenesy is a clinical sign which can be seen in many congenital diseases, for example congenital adrenal hyperplasia caused by 21 hydroxilase deficiency or "pseudohermafrodysm". These syndromes are very rare and can be revealed at a simple clinical examination of a new born baby

The clinical signs after birth are, among others, small labia, modified clitoris depending on the patient's genotype. According to the clinical and laboratory characteristics, the individual will be raised and educated as a girl/boy.

Vaginal reconstruction can be made in 2 situations: when uterus, annex and 2/3 proximal vagina exists and when those are absent and the clitoris is in a hypertrophy status. Specialists recommend the intervention after the age of 3 or before entering in the community, to avoid trauma. Of course, these interventions can also be done later.
