Scar removal
Sometimes we might have accidents that leave visible traces on the body. For example, burns can leave hypertrophic scars or even keloid scars.
The most efficient way to treat those scars (if they are big) is tissue expansion and the excision of the keloid. Several surgical interventions are necessary:
1. Under the healthy skin beside the scar is inserted a sterile, inflatable bag (tissue expander) which is filled step by step with physiological serum. This is an out patient procedure.
2. When the desired dimensions are reached (2-4 weeks), the expander is surgically extracted and the scar is removed; its place has been taken by the stretched skin. Then the area is sutured with hidden thread so that the remaining scar is linear.
3. Other interventions are necessary, depending on the scar surface and the condition of the skin.
